Summit Bus Sponsors Restraint Seminar
Summit Bus of Tupelo partnered with Qstraint and sponsored a seminar on Wednesday, August 26th on the proper way to transport and restrain special needs students on school buses. The seminar was designed for transportation directors, persons over the special needs program at the schools as well the drivers of the special needs buses. Mrs. Trisha Nolen, the representative with Qstraint for our region facilitated the seminar with videos and materials relative to the restraint of children. She then demonstrated the proper way to fasten students on the buses with an actual platform just as you would have on the bus. In order to become certified, each attendee had to complete the procedure of fastening students in place on the platform correctly. We had 44 attendees, and we certified 39 of those present. We provided lunch at the end of the seminar and enjoyed getting to know the bus drivers, many of which we had not met. The response was great and the overall feeling I got from the group was that it was a much needed session. We look to having this annually. Qstraint has agreed to come each year and conduct a session for us. We look forward to this partnership to grow, and therefore provide our customers with this excellent service.
