December 14, 2017 – Summit Idealease, part of Summit Holdings, is fully-compliant with the Electronic Logging Data (ELD) mandate that goes into effect on Monday, December 18, 2017. Customers who rent a vehicle from one of the 18 Summit Idealease locations have the option to use Summit’s Geotab device or their own telematics device to comply with ELD regulations.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) granted the Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA), of which Summit Idealease is a member, a 90-day waiver from the ELD mandate. This waiver only applies to short-term rentals under 30 days. Despite the waiver, Summit Idealease has completed installation of Geotab telematics devices on 100% of our lease and rental vehicles. Summit Idealease staff will continue to work with our rental customers during the waiver period to ensure that their staff receives the necessary training, that their fleet administrators are set up to access data, and that all of our customers are compliant before the waiver period ends. Once this waiver expires, only rentals of up to 8 days are exempt from ELD regulations.

Cal Alexander, Vice President of Lease & Rental for Summit notes that “Summit Idealease will operate on December 18th and going forward as if the 90-day waiver does not exist. We are ready on day 1 to meet the ELD requirements.” He added that “This waiver will simply ease the stress as we undergo this change in our industry.” Summit Idealease customers can opt to use the Geotab devices installed in Summit vehicles to capture their required Records of Duty Status (RODS) data to satisfy the ELD mandate requirements. Customers who have their own telematics equipment may use that equipment in place of our Geotab device.

Customers who opt to use the Summit-supplied Geotab telematics equipment will have access to an online fleet management portal that provides a wealth of information on their lease or rental vehicles, including hours of service (HOS) logs, driver violations, vehicle locations, routing activity, idle time, driver behavior, geo-fencing alerts and notifications, and HOS reports and information. The portal is accessible via web browser, while the Driver RODS are recorded via iOS and Android devices using a free app available via the App Store or Play Store.

Summit Idealease is prepared to assist our lease and rental customers with complying with the ELD mandate on its effective date on December 18th.
